GREEN MELON OR PURCEDDU D'ALCAMO
The "Purceddu d'Alcamo" has a dark green and wrinkled skin, an oval shape and a very sugary white pulp. It is called "purceddu" (piglet in the local dialect) because its shape resembles a piglet. It is a fruit that can be kept for months after the harvest, which takes place in the summer.
Farmers in the provinces of Trapani and Palermo, the area of origin of the Purceddo di Alcamo melon, have continued to cultivate it for centuries now with the aim of preventing the extinction of a unique fruit in the world.
